"The Futuristic Kitchen"
The foundation of the photographic works featured at the exhibition is the book "The Futuristic Kitchen" by the founder of the Futuristic movement, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (translated into German by Klaus M.Rarisch, who was present at the opening). The book is based on the various manifestos the Italian writer published since 1909 and altogether rejects the entire culture of the past. The Futuristic principle sets out to sentence and destroy everything that is 'passatistic' (captured in the past) in order to create a new modern world. The Futuristic movement pursued the goal of affecting all spheres in culture, and thus reached the Italian kitchen in 1932. The food revolution, as intended by Marinetti, attacks the ordinary traditional method of nourishment and presents new dishes which should correspond closer to the dynamic and more 'airy' feeling of the life of the modern man. In a first work, some of the book's extraordinary recipes were translated into photography by Simone Demuth in a free associative way. During realisation of the photos the meanings of the recipes within the Futuristic context was considered. Based on these first pictures, a refinement and enlargement of the conception was achieved by creating new recipes personally, following the Futuristic idea. The recipes were formulated in the manner found in Marinetti's book, in order to represent them finally in a graphic way. At Gallery Wallywoods the photography featured in "The Futuristic Kitchen" is accompanied by an unusual representation of the written recipe descriptions, i.e. attached to an arm-chair decorated by the artist Marie-Cécile Lutta. A sound form will also be installed for each photo, in order to create an association for the pictures for each viewer / listener. |
