LOVE AMONGST THE RUINS
|
|
Squat at Heinersdorfer Strasse, east Berlin. Lived here with friends, foreign & local, for six winter months (94-95). Vandalising its 'Café Sludge' with my first paintings, mostly copied from glossy magazines, gave me the idea to earn much needed cash with mural commissions. Some of the girls were unimpressed, quite rightly, but there were always more important topics on the agenda at the weekly Plenums. When the warm weather finally hit we were evicted on very short notice. Later I visited the rubble of the café to retrieve a bit of painted plaster - I should have filled a wheel-barrow and sold them as bits of Wall to touring voyeurs. In all, a pivotal chapter; "too full of Adventure to be briefly described." |
